Dear Daphne and Peter, we have greatly enjoyed our stay in the luxurious Sunbird Sanctuary, a fine base of operations for exploring the Daintree You have thought of everything we could possibly need. You are kind, helpful but unobtrusive hosts. (But could you just ask the birds to come out from hiding in the leaves a bit more frequently!) Warmest regards ...
Steve and Jan - Santa Barbara, California - October 2018
Dear Daphne and Peter. Being, feeling, watching in this green paradise was a great, spiritually (sic) experience for us! Thank you so much for your excellent service - the delicious breakfast and the excellent barramundi (we ordered him two evenings!) - and your friendly and warm welcome! Tomorrow we have to leave your amazing haven; thank you and goodbye!
Horst and Steffen - Germany - September 2018
Thank you Daphne and Peter for providing the perfect hideaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. It was exactly what we needed. You are absolutely wonderful hosts, thank you for your suggestions, warm hospitality and delicious breakfast (we absolutely loved the marmalade). Our friends back home are going to hear all about this wonderful place and we plan to hopefully come back again, if you'll have us! Thank you again.
Somya and Pridhvi - India - August 2018
Dear Daphne and Peter. Thank you for a lovely peaceful stay. The Barramundi (fish) last night was AWESOME - and the Lemonade-fruit marmalade at breakfast. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you for being such wonderful hosts.
Patrick and Mandy - Marlborough, NZ - July 2018
Such a treat. A first for me (Cate) staying in such a fascinating environment. We have thoroughly enjoyed your company, your lovely home and thank you for your kindness and hospitality during our stay. It will all live long in our memories!
Paul and Maggie (Canberra) and Cate (Wales, UK) - July 2018
Dear Daphne and Peter - thank you so much for making our stay at the Sunbird Sanctuary so enjoyable. As we leave after 8 days we feel very relaxed, thanks to your hospitality and unobtrusive attentiveness. We had a lovely stay. Thanks and kind regards.
Dave and Janet - Fremantle - July 2018
Inquiry is needed. Why did the frogs not continue their racket after the 2nd night?! Why does the bird that says "gnaw gnaw" say "gnaw gnaw"?! These and other riddles kept me wondering at night - not to mention the hilarious recitals from the orange-footed scrub-fowl outside our door at 1 am, 3 am etc etc! 24/7 Paradise! We enjoyed the accommodation and hospitality very much and hope to be back for more riddles!
Lorenz and Kathy - Colorado USA - April 2018
Simply a wonderful stay in the Sunbird Sanctuary! We sat for hours on the balcony listening and watching, taking in the wildlife. The orioles, the doves, the sunbird, the figbird, the magnificent buff-breasted paradise kingfisher, swifts and honeyeaters and many more - and of course the Ulysses butterflies ... We also found the information booket very useful. And the barramundi delicious! The only problem - it was hard to leave the place in the morning!
Sylvia, Goran and Georg - Stockholm, Sweden - December 2017
Dear Daphne and Peter - we had a wonderful stay in your cottage. It is well-equipped, nicely designed and your breakfasts were the best we've had during our month long stay in Australia. Thank you for being such welcoming hosts. Tip for those who stay here - take the ferry and drive to Cape Tribulation - we had three Cassowary crossings!
Chris and Els - Netherlands - November 2017
We've had a great time here for the last four days. It's so peaceful and tranquil, yet convenient for exploring the Daintree valley and up to Cape Tribulation. Lots of lovely details in the cabin ... even down to salt and pepper! Thank you Daphne and Peter.
Steve and Jan - London, UK - October 2017
This is our third visit to this very special place which is still as lovely as when we first came 16 years ago. Although we are not birders we have seen and enjoyed so many beautiful birds - it is like staying in your own private wildlife reserve. A highlight also was the wallaby eating his evening meal right in front of our verandah for over 45 minutes! Thank you Peter and Daphne for making this amazing place available to guests to share in the peace and tranquility and just to observe the inhabitants of the rainforest.
Bill and Jan - Norfolk, UK - October 2017
Thank you Daphne and Peter for sharing your slice of heaven with us. We couldn't have picked a more perfect place for our honeymoon. You are the Perfect Hosts, there when and if we need, but allowing privacy as well. The perfect mix of sight-seeing and tranquility, with some beautiful views around your property. Thank you for sharing your local knowledge and making recommendations. It has been an amazing experience. We will certainly return to celebrate anniversaries in a similar manner.
Michael and Phillipa - Townsville - June 2017

To Daphne and Peter, thank you for having us. We have loved every minute of our stay here in this beautiful part of the country. Your attention to the little details has made it a home from home. Truly delightful!
Allan and Julie - Sheffield, UK - January 2017
Daphne and Peter, thank you very much for your warm hospitality. Daintree Valley Haven is a fantastic little gem. Great setting, comfy and practical bungalows, very pleasant breakfast - the sights, the sounds, the smells of the surrounding nature is awesome! So happy to have stumbled upon your B&B by pure luck while exploring the back roads. Only regret is that we have to move on and cannot stay for a full week.
Marc and Norman - Toronto, Canada - December 2016
IT'S SO QUIET!! A wonderful place to stay. Really enjoyed the great yoghurt, jams and special fruits not to mention the barramundi and steak/sausage packs! It has been a pleasure to experience nature at it's best. Congratulation to Peter and Daphne for a job well done!
Jane and Neil - SA - October 2016
A very memorable experience in this quiet corner of the world. We loved the guided bird tour with 'Sauce' and waking up each morning to birdsong. Life as it should be - thank you so much!
Bob and Kelli - Oregon USA - September 2016
Thank you for affording me a most comfortable, peaceful and hospitable retreat. I've enjoyed every minute of being here, including the rain! Your location is special. How lovely to enjoy the birds, butterflies and flowers. Thank you. To quote a translated Dutch saying - "I came in as a stranger, I go out as a friend". All the best with your future endeavours.
Raya - NSW - September 2016
Daphne and Peter - we can see why my sister, who stayed here 5 years ago, had such high praise. Thank you for giving us a tour of the property, explaining the various trees and birds. We had a truly rested and comfortable holiday in amazing, unique surroundings. PS Home-made jams were delicious!
Chuli and Anil - Melbourne - August 2016
Thank you for sharing your wonderful haven and enabling us to de-stress with nature and nurture! The best bird walk we've had in the Daintree is here at the Haven. And as with so many of your guests our stay was enriched with Sauce (Daintree River Wild Watch) at your advice and we were guided to yummy feasts at Whet, not to mention Daphne's feasts found in our little Castle here. We leave with ten thousand memories and Lord only knows how many thousand photos to reinforce them. Thanks for the "old technology" (books!) we used to help identify some of the birds and beasties we encountered. Bless you both and this wonderful place.
Mary and Tony - S Australia - July 2016
An absolutely perfect place to experience the magnificence of North Queensland rainforests! I came to try to photograph birds and butterflies and was rewarded with more variety than I've ever seen before surrounding me both in the cottage from the well-placed patio, to the walking trails throughout the property ... Loved my time here, thank you Daphne and Peter and could not have asked for more caring hosts.
Jill - Tasmania - June 2016
Peter and Daphne, you have perfectly captured the spirit of the Daintree rainforest. The name of the room - Cassowary Castle - was a constant reminder of the real reason we must protect this stunning and special environment. And we must do so with full respect for the men and women who had the vision to create the facilities, including the tourism infrastructure, that will allow generations of visitors to come and appreciate this region and it's natural treasures. Thank you for your authentic hospitality.
Joel - USA and Port Moresby - May 2016
Dear Peter and Daphne - We can't say enough how much we loved it here at your beautiful place! Truly a haven for anyone who loves being out with nature while still wanting to enjoy their creature comforts! You made us feel so welcome from the time we arrived until we had to (unfortunately) leave. Thank you so much for the delicious breakfast - the jams were amazing!!! - and for all the info and ferry tickets to Cape Tribulation. We will be spreading the word when we return home. Thank you both for letting us be your guests at your beautiful haven!
Kathi and Patrick (originally from Maryland USA, now living in Wellington, NZ) - October 15
This place is incredible! Even better than the description on the website, which doesn't happen very often! We so much enjoyed being in the forest and hearing so much life in it at night. Thank you Daphne and Peter for sharing tips, good addresses, CD, excellent menus and wine and exceptional breakfast!
