Malay Apples

Malay apples on tree, red pear-shaped fruit

As our winter approaches (officially starting on the 1st June) not many of Daintree Valley Haven's dozens of exotic tropical fruits are producing at the moment apart from these Malay Apples (syzygium malaccense).  The tree is native to Malaysia and Indonesia and the fruits have a thin, edible red skin and crisp white flesh inside.  Not a lot of flavour but lovely in a fruit salad - and our Honeyeaters absolutely love them!

Winter in the tropics is lovely - warm, usually dry, days with temps in the high 20's C (low 80's F), dropping to around the mid teens C (low 60's F) at night.  Very little humidity and almost no mozzies!
